West Coast-based tribute band coming to Cold Lake May 7

The Eagles have been one of the world’s top bands for 55 years, so it’s not surprising their songs have the power to move generations of music-lovers.

But it’s not all nostalgia. The Eagles’ music is beautifully crafted, and the band’s signature sound still inspires musicians and thrills new audiences.

Take It To The Limit, a breathtaking homage to one of the greatest bands of all time, is coming to the Reid Field House at Cold Lake Energy Centre May 7.

Bass player Corey Curtis says the production is a joy to perform. And it’s the fans that make it rock.

“People that love the Eagles love the Eagles a lot,” he said. “When the music has been a part of their lives for so long, they know each little part of every song.”

When the audience is that knowledgeable, the band had better deliver the goods. And Curtis says meeting that challenge—giving a faithful rendering of the music people love—is a big part of the show’s success.

“Our six-piece band works really hard to make all of the harmonies and all of the guitar parts exactly as they are on the records,” he said. “When people close their eyes, it feels like they’re actually listening to the Eagles.”

Behind the Eagles’ free-sounding “California rock” is an incredible amount of disciplined musicianship. But achieving that excellence isn’t a burden, Curtis says. Instead, the players find it exhilarating to bring their very best and put it all together.

Curtis’s favourite song to perform is New Kid In Town.

“It cycles through three keys, and they do it in a way where you almost don’t even know that you’re moving,” he said.

Curtis sings the harmonies in the song and “some of them are screaming high,” he says. “I just get a real charge out of harmonizing with somebody when I get to be in the stratosphere like that.”

The audience reaction during the shows, and after, tells the players they’re nailing it.

“When we do the meet and greet after the show, that’s exactly what we get,” Curtis says. “People say ‘this experience really took me back to the 70s, all of a sudden I was in high school again.’

“And that’s our goal: to create that feeling of being young and experiencing this music for the first time.”

The band brings its own personality to the performance with their onstage patter and even some audience interaction. The overall experience is like a concert within a theatrical production, with all the best elements of a great party.

And if it looks like the band is having the time of their lives, Curtis says you can believe it.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be bringing a high-quality theatre act into these communities,” he said. “It’s a gas, man, it’s so much fun.

“And to watch people react to what we’re doing, and the whole audience is so happy—there’s nothing like that.”
