The TuneAgers choir from Bonnyville invited their friends from four other community choirs to raise their voices and lift spirits at their annual Christmas Choir festival concert last Thursday.

The program offered traditional carols and new arrangements of sacred songs, and a couple of seasonal secular selections. Each of the five choirs delivered energy and enthusiasm along with their excellent musicianship.

The finale, with all of the choirs massed together, was spectacular.

Participating choirs were the TuneAgers; the Bonnyville Singers; La Chorale St. Louis de France; the Elk Point Community Choir; and Les Musicos de St. Paul.

So far it has been an exciting Christmas season for performing arts in the Lakeland, with more to come. The Elk Point Christmas dinner theatre had a record-breaking run with “Not A Creature Was Stirring, Not Even A  Moose” selling more than a thousand tickets. In Cold Lake, the former Grande Parlour theatre company was reborn as the Parlour Players to present an original play at Beantrees Café.

The Nutcracker offered two exciting performances in St. Paul this past weekend (see pictures on page 10), and the annual 4 Wing Band Christmas concert in Cold Lake played to a full house on Sunday and gathered food and cash donations for the Cold Lake Food Bank.

Still to come are the Elk Point Community Choir Christmas concert December 13, and Les Musicos’ Festival of Carols at St. Paul Cathedral December 15.

And there’s more—school concerts, church events, and various performances in lodges and residences will continue throughout the Christmas season.

The TuneAgers choir hosted the concert and anchored the program. The choir is directed by Sharon Sharun (pictured below). JEFF GAYE
