Local Alberta Seniors Week celebrations started with a pancake breakfast in Elk Point on May 31. They wrapped up with a pancake breakfast in Bonnyville June 7.
In between, seniors’ groups and seniors-serving organizations laid on lunches and barbecues, learning sessions, games, activities, and entertainment. It was a busy week.
St. Paul and District FCSS took their Seniors Week luncheon gathering into St. Paul, Elk Point, Mallaig, Heinsburg, and Ashmont from Monday to Friday. The program included programming updates from FCSS, a law quiz from Portage College’s public legal education program, local entertainment, and information booths.
Cold Lake FCSS opened the week with a pancake breakfast and hosted a fraud awareness session on Wednesday.
Age Friendly held its annual barbecue at Cold Lake Men’s Shed on Tuesday, inviting everyone to get out for a visit and to check out the programs and services.
On Thursday, the inaugural Seniors’ Week Expo in Bonnyville attracted participants from all over the region. The variety of information sessions was complemented with activities and an impressive trade-show-style layout of information booths. And of course there was plenty of delicious food.
On the same day Cold Lake Seniors’ Society had their annual Seniors Week lunch with an impressive buffet catered by The Hard Deck.
Cold Lake Energy Centre was a hub of activity on Friday with its popular program of indoor and outdoor games and activities, a barbecue lunch, and an afternoon tea. Bonnyville Seniors Drop-In Centre’s monthly pancake breakfast closed out the week’s activities on Sunday June 7.
