Lakeland seniors celebrated Alberta Seniors Week with information, entertainment, games, and food—plenty of food!

Most of the activity took place between Monday June 5 and Friday the 9, but Bonnyville Seniors’ Drop-In Centre offered “bookends” to the celebration beginning with a pancake breakfast on June 4 and finishing with a social evening June 11.

The June 11 social was made extra special when Drop-In Centre conferred life membership on cherished member Willie McGregor. The centre also named their main hall in McGregor’s honour.

St. Paul Regional FCSS took their show on the road. Their Seniors Week sessions offered information, games, entertainment, and lunch in St. Paul, Heinsburg, Mallaig, Elk Point, and Ashmont on consecutive weekdays.

Indeed all of the local FCSS organizations offered programming during the week. Bonnyville and District FCSS offered a Seniors Supports “pop-up” on Thursday, and a grandkids/grandparents ice cream giveaway on Friday. Cold Lake and District FCSS laid on a pancake breakfast, first aid instruction, and an intergenerational tea.

Age Friendly Cold Lake and the Cold Lake Men’s Shed had their annual barbecue on Wednesday, and Cold lake Seniors’ Society offered painting and floor curling on Thursday. (And of course a luncheon!)

The City of Cold Lake added recreational programming—and lunch—at the Energy Centre on Friday.
