Monday was the annual Alberta Family Day holiday.

Mild weather took the “shiver” out of St. Paul’s Shiver Fest celebrations, but organizers had wisely planned for whatever the weather might bring. The outdoor ice wasn’t suitable for skating, but there were plenty of activities from Wednesday through to Monday to provide family fun.

The Bonnyville Oilmen’s Society managed to put on a Sunday program of various outdoor activities on the ice at Vezeau Beach (see pictures).

Elk Point laid on a family cultural program at the Allied Arts Centre Monday afternoon.

The usual Family Day venues around Cold Lake—the Energy Centre, Col. J.J. Parr Recreation Centre, and Kinosoo Ridge in the M.D. of Bonnyville—were occupied with the Alberta Winter Games, but families were welcome to come out and enjoy the action.

Vezeau Beach was a buzz of activity on Sunday with more than 500 community members stopping by to take part in the Bonnyville Oilmen’s annual Family Fun Day. Seasonably warm weather helped as crowds enjoyed free hotdogs, warm soup and hot chocolate. The event, which ran from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. also included ice fishing, hockey, curling, sleigh rides and a bonfire on the frozen lake. Photos by JAZMIN IRELAND
