Construction on Bonnyville’s new Strathcona Performing Arts Centre is nearing the halfway point, and the Clayton Bellamy Foundation for the Arts is pushing its fundraising toward the finish line.

But the foundation’s upcoming Gala and Golf weekend is about more than generating funds, said Clayton Bellamy.

“Obviously right now the fundraising is taking precedence because we have another $1 million to raise,” Bellamy said.

“But we want to capture the energy and the magic of not only performance, but of the arts. And remind people how critical it is to have that as part of a healthy, vibrant community.”

The second annual Gala and Golf weekend will follow the success of last year’s event, which combined a sparkling gala at Bonnyville’s C2 with a celebrity golf tournament at Bonnyville Golf and Country Club the following day.

This year’s combination will run August 30 and 31 at the same venues.

The gala will be hosted by Danny Hooper, and performers will include Michelle Wright, FKB, Nice Horse, and Trevor Hurst of Econoline Crush. More celebrity announcements are pending.

As part of the fun and fundraising activities at the gala, the celebs will be auctioned off to join the winning bidder’s golf team the next day.

The Clayton Bellamy Foundation’s vision is not just to create a performing arts venue but to encourage and develop the arts in the region through educational programming and scholarships. Portage College and MacEwan University are participating in the educational components of the project

On-site work at the Strathcona Performing Arts Centre began in the fall and is expected to be completed early in 2025.
