The 2027 Alberta 55 Plus Games have been awarded to Fort McMurray.
Participants in 24 sporting events will compete for medals and a chance to qualify for the 2028 Canada Games.
Meanwhile 55 Plus Zone 7, which includes Cold Lake, Bonnyville, St. Paul, and well beyond, is organizing playdowns for the 2025 Alberta Games. Leduc will host this year’s competitions in August.
Local tournaments will determine the Zone 7 participants in pickleball, card games, floor shuffleboard, floor curling, bocce, golf, cornhole, 8-ball, and snooker.
Participants in cycling, swimming, and track and field may enter without qualifying through a local playdown.
Some of the 2025 qualifying events are coming up shortly, and some involve out-of-town travel. For more information on local tournaments, visit the Zone 7 55 Plus Facebook page, or contact Mary Ann Latty via email, rlatty@telusplanet.net.
