CFB Cold Lake’s 4 Wing Band travelled to Nanton, Alberta on the weekend to support the Bomber Command Museum of Canada’s celebration of 80 years since the Allied victory in Europe.

The museum laid on a  full day of activities, including three performances from the band. A major highlight was two runs of the engines on the museum’s historic Avro Lancaster bomber.

The band will present its annual spring concert in Cold Lake Sunday May 25 at 1:00 pm in the Cold Lake High School theatre.

History’s roar. There were 7,374 Avro Lancaster bombers built to fight the Nazis during the Second World War. Of these, 3,932 were destroyed in wartime. Only 17 remain today—two are airworthy, and two more, including FM 159 at Bomber Command Museum of Canada in Nanton, Alberta, can run up their engines and taxi.
Crowds gathered at the museum on Saturday to hear the Lanc’s engines—a  sound from Canada’s wartime history. CARL ORDE
