“You realize you’ve just started an annual tradition.”

That was one of the comments following last year’s resoundingly successful Tubas In The Brewery fundraiser at Cold Lake Brewing and Distilling. The event raised more than $500 for Hearts For Healthcare.

And so, an annual tradition it is.

The tuba quartet of Sherry Gaye and Pat Henderson on euphoniums, and Ray Erickson and Jeff Gaye on bass tubas, will play about an hour of seasonal and other favourites at the brewery on December 12.

A euphonium, by the way, is the tenor-voiced cousin of the bass tuba.

The big instruments have commanding voices, but can also be played softly and sweetly—whatever the music calls for. The acoustics of the brewery’s intimate tap room suit the group perfectly.

“I liken it to the sound of a pipe organ in a magnificent cathedral,” Jeff Gaye said. “It’s a lot of fun to play, and last year’s audience had a blast—figuratively, that is.”

Wasn’t that a party: Tubas In The Brewery 2024 raised $500 for Hearts For Healthcare. SUBMITTED
