The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA)’s Station 10 – Cherry Grove is officially operating. The station came online at 7:00 pm last Wednesday

“Station 10 members have been training and preparing to serve the community for the past year, with strong support from all BRFA stations and administration,” said Alicia Krawchuk, Regional Chief of Emergency Services.

“The team is well-trained, well-prepared, and fully equipped to respond”

Construction of Station 10 began in Summer 2024 and was completed in October 2025. Over the past several months, BRFA has acquired the necessary equipment, and the station is now fully operational.

The team of volunteer firefighters hadn’t received their first call as of Friday, but BRFA’s chief administrative officer Darren Sandbeck says they are ready.

“The volunteer group out there includes some folks from CFB Cold Lake that actually work with the fire service there, so there is some experience.  And then we’ve trained a number of new folks there as well,” Sandbeck said.

The Cherry Grove community responded enthusiastically when the project began, and a strong contingent of volunteers have completed the firefighter training.

“The community came out in force, there were about 30 individuals that put their hand up to begin the process to become volunteer firefighters,” Sandbeck said. “The community support in that area has been absolutely spectacular.

“Cherry Grove residents can be confident that they now have a highly capable and dedicated team ready to respond when needed.”

One immediate benefit of having a fire service in Cherry Grove is lower insurance premiums for homeowners. In a news release, BRFA advised homeowners in the area to contact their insurance provider directly to have their insurance premiums reviewed.

The BRFA is a regional emergency services provider delivering Fire, EMS, and 911 communications across the Municipal District of Bonnyville, the Town of Bonnyville and surrounding areas.
