Five local players took part in the Alberta Open horseshoes tournament in Calgary. Lindsay Hodgins of Elk Point and Vic Ouellette of Cold Lake each won their divisions, while Barbara Fryingpan and Jason Kowerchuk of Frog Lake each took third in theirs.
Those four players qualify for Western Canadian Classic and the Canadian Championships in Watrous, Saskatchewan in August.
Lee Stein of Cold Lake finished fourth in his division.
Hodgins entered the Alberta Open with a ringer average of 74 per cent. With her 65.42 per cent score in Calgary, she is still the top horseshoe pitcher in the province, and among the best women’s players at the international level.
