The Pierceland class of 1965 held our 60-year reunion June 20-22.

Our reunion was the brainchild of our very capable and caring Gord Riddell and his wife Barb. Over two years Gord gauged interest and formed a committee including Gerry Darichuk, Jean Troniak, Leona Chmarney, and Mae Buday .

The weekend was a total success. We met on Friday for decorating and a mixer. We thank Gord’s sisters Corinne Senetchko and Darlene Giesbrecht for the wonderful decoration, set out artfully by the committee.

We enjoyed LOTS of pizza! Leona Regnier, Leona Chmarney, Mae and Barb supplied us with the best sweets ever.

Saturday afternoon was a lot of fun . We sat in a circle and visited. Stories of teen adventures abounded—the only casualty we remembered was a broken arm (names withheld to protect the innocent).

Of course we talked about teachers and other students… all kinds of memories. We caught up on our past 60 years.

Then it was time for pictures, followed by Gord’s very sincere overview and welcome. Our dear sweet Jean gave a brief history of our school life.

After a catered turkey supper attended by grads and guests, each of us 10 grads gave a three-minute talk about our life after grad. We mentioned careers, families, hobbies; our sorrows and blessings.

Our guest speaker was our own Gerry Darichuk. He had us spellbound with his stories of his “hobby” as a philanthropist in many countries—recently on the front lines of the war in Ukraine.

There was an open house for guests after 7 p.m. There were about 24 in attendance, including classmates who hadn’t graduated with us: Marie (Angermaier) Hillaby, Bryce Burgess, Garry Grundner, Murray Pikowicz and Linda (Erikson) Pikowicz. There was so much love and fellowship.

Sunday morning a few of us attended a catered breakfast. The room was cleared of decoration , but we all went home with wonderful memories.

Pierceland people nurtured and prayed for us for 18 years. Our foundations are solid.
