Pharmacists Bob and Ron Mattice came to Cold Lake more than 35 years ago, working at Barry Stevenson’s Value Drug Mart and eventually buying the store.
Ron retired after the brothers sold their two locations (Marina Mall and Tri-City Mall), which now operate under the Guardian Community Drug Mart banner. Bob stayed on at the Tri-City store as pharmacy manager.
Bob will be retiring at the end of June. Behind the pharmacy counter his customers always appreciated his friendly and knowledgeable approach, as well as his sense of humour which led to a side hustle as a stand-up comic.
He has also been a reliable partner for community fundraising efforts, including the annual Lions Club hockey playoff pool.
The Tri-City Guardian drug store is inviting friends and customers to drop in and share a moment with Bob on Wednesday, June 25. His last day on the job will be Sunday, June 29.

Dear Bob,
Although I haven’t known you long, in the short time I’ve had the pleasure of knowing you, I’ve come to see you as a man of true character—a passionate individual who genuinely loves his community. You’ve also shown yourself to be a true gentleman with a great, and sometimes mischievous, sense of humor that always brightened the room.
Congratulations on your well-earned retirement! Wishing you all the best as you embark on this exciting new chapter. May your next adventure be filled with happiness, success, and all the things you love.
Warm regards,
Paul
Bob has been a constant in my life for 25 yrs. Calling him to find out interactions of my medications, and guiding me for all my pharmaceutical needs. Reminding me of my shots and then giving them to me. I’m going to miss his conversations and his caring ways. Happy retirement Bob, enjoy those grand children! 😃 Thank you from the bottom of my heart. 🧡

Hey Bob, good to hear that you are getting ready to transition into a well-earned retirement. So many good things have been said about you here that there is really nothing more for me to say other than to vouch that all the beautiful things that have been said here about you are 100% true, and that your sense of humour is just out of this world!
My good friend, do enjoy your retirement to the max, and if I ever find myself in Cold Lake we shall certainly have to spend some time to celebrate this new chapter in your life.
Hello Friend . I will always remember the time I mailed a letter to Leslie from Pee Wee Herman!
