The Alberta 55 Plus Winter Games came to a close last month, with local participants bringing home all three colours of medals.

The Games are usually held in one location as a multi-sport event. But without a host community for the 2023 Games, each sport held a provincial tournament in a different community.

Alberta Games are held in odd-numbered years. Winter Games often take place in January or February of the following year.

The Alberta 55 Plus games qualify participants for Canada Games in even years.  The 2024 Canada Games will be held in Quebec City.

Jim Urlacher’s curling team with Dave Knutson, Zane Pickowicz, and Paul Odell won the Bronze medal in Cochrane in February.

Snooker and floor curling competitions were held in Camrose in April. Don Hennessey of Bonnyville won the Silver snooker medal in the 55+ age category, while Jerme Bourassa, Darcie Wasyluk, Elaine Taylor, and Marie Ingersall won Gold in 55+ floor curling.

Denis Carbonneau and Vic Ouellette, both from Cold Lake, took part in the darts competition in St. Albert. Carbonneau won Silver in the 55+ category, while Ouellette won Silver in the 70+ category.

Bob Latty, MaryAnn Latty, Peter Briere, Diana French, and Ron Myers won Silver in the 70+ category in five-pin bowling.
