The fourth annual Cold Lake Ice Fishing Tournament ran from Friday to Sunday this past weekend, and the anglers are going home happy.
Four hundred entries were accepted for the tournament, which is Age Friendly Cold Lake’s single biggest fundraiser. Prizes are awarded in several categories for the biggest lake trout caught and released. There are daily prizes as well as tournament-long prizes.
The lake was dotted with tents and shacks as many people chose to camp out overnight on the ice. During the day, the fishers emerged from their shelters to enjoy the sunshine and the unseasonably warm temperatures.
The largest fish recorded over the weekend was a 78-centimetre (roughly 31-inch) trout caught by Bryce Butler. Under tournament rules, all fish are measured and released.
