The Lakeland celebrated Alberta Seniors Week with fun, facts, and food.
Community organizations offered enjoyable and informative activities all week long, with plenty of socializing and lots to eat.
St. Paul Regional FCSS conducted their annual Seniors Week tour with luncheons in St. Paul, Heinsburg, Mallaig, Elk Point, and Ashmont. The events included games, local entertainment, informative presentations, and a hearty lunch.
Bonnyville Seniors Drop-In Centre was the hub of activity in Bonnyville. Other local activities were hosted by the Town of Bonnyville, the M.D. of Bonnyville, the Bonnyville Golf Club, and Extendicare, all with the support of numerous sponsors.
Cold Lake also presented activities all week long through the City of Cold Lake and the Cold Lake and District FCSS, Cold Lake Seniors’ Society, and Age Friendly Cold Lake.
Alberta Seniors Week was established to celebrate and recognize the contributions seniors make to enhance the quality of life in Alberta.
Seniors Week was inspired by the vision of the late Alice Modin. In 1986 years ago, Modin began a campaign to start a seniors’ day in Strathcona County that helped pave the way for the annual province-wide celebration.
Communities across Alberta participate by offering activities for older adults. Seniors’ organizations also undertake Seniors Week events and activities on their own initiative.
A week of fun, facts, and food
There was plenty to do, plenty to learn, and of course lots to eat at Alberta Seniors Week events across the Lakeland last week.
Events and activities were hosted by municipalities, FCSS offices, and by seniors organizations themselves. Lots of volunteers, young and old, pitched in; events were well-attended and enthusiastically received.
Alberta Seniors Week began in 1986 and has been a welcome celebration of older Albertans and their contributions to the province ever since.
